2/9/13–Gratitude Journal

I am grateful for a day shared with my 8 year old grandson, Nathan.  We went to a Chinese New Year celebration for the year of the (yin) snake at the Bonita library and fed the dragons red envelopes and had some treats. Nathan plays a good game of monopoly (not sure this is good grandmothering) and painted some great pictures. Then we watched the Lorax together.  I am grateful for this respite before tomorrow when I hit the paperwork and bills that have been piling up.  Grateful for a warm house and the comfy bed awaiting me.

I am grateful for getting closer to caught up at work today.  I am grateful the wonderful workmen at SDSU left me a couple rocks for the labyrinth.  I am grateful I was able to get in yoga and meditation this morning.

I am grateful for the new exciting memoir class I am taking and that I was able to pair a 963 word remembrance down to exactly 500 words.  I am grateful I was able to get  1 Quest for the Best  and 5 Mortar Board Letters completed by going in to work and pretending I was on my usual day off.  I am grateful I will get to hang out with my grandson, Nathan, this weekend.

2/4/13 Gratitude Journal

I am grateful that my son is getting stronger every day.  I am grateful that my beautiful 3 year old grand daughter is already planning to visit Meema in California.  I am grateful that my adorable grandson (who has Williams Syndrome)  looks up and smiles at me and has quickly learned to bang two blocks together even though he is very good at removing his hearing aid.  I am grateful I was able to visit my son’s family in Wichita and will be grateful, also, to see my grandsons in Santee (daughter’s children)  this weekend and my students on Wednesday.  I am grateful I will be starting to take a memoir class–What fun!

I am grateful that I met a lovely woman at my son’s church this morning.  She and her husband (who was in a wheelchair, and had just been a speaker for the church relationship retreat), and his assistance dog died in an auto accident later today, but the outpouring of love for this man in Wichita is rich as people remember how he saved their relationships and their lives.  I am grateful I could be here for my son and his family as they grieve with their friends. There have been some big challenges in my life lately, but I am grateful for the people who have helped me through them, and I am grateful for this man I only learned of in the last few days for all the help he gave others. We are so fragile.  We are so strong.

I am grateful that Dale was up to performing at his church’s retreat.  (Even if he had to sit to play the guitar.)  I am grateful for my daughter-in-law Ashley’s cool-headedness when FX pulled his Mic-key tube out crawling between a chair and a basket. (She got it back in after grandma held his tummy contents in.  What a scare!) I am grateful that it wasn’t much later that he took a record 19 steps pushing his little toy that looks kind of like great grandma’s walker.  I am grateful for getting to spend most of today with my beautiful 3 year old granddaughter who loves Meema to read books to her. I am grateful for Facebook so I can hear about all our great SDSU students getting into graduate school.

I am grateful that Dale seems a little better every day. I am grateful that Ashley and the band could do the retreat without him tonight. I am grateful for the nurse that helps out with FX.

I am grateful that my son set up this blog.  I am grateful he was well enough to set up this blog.  I am grateful for a day with my son and grandchildren and daughter-in-law.
